Jersey Canada's National Extension Program
soars with spectacular results!
In 2006, Jersey Canada established a new National Extension Program. It was obvious to Jersey leaders that there were oceans of newer Jersey owners who were hungry for information on Jersey Canada services and the Jersey breed. The wisdom of the decision to establish a National Extension Program has been proven repeatedly over the past four years.
Since January 2004 Jersey Canada has processed registration of 840 new herd names from across the breadth of Canada. In fact over 650 of these new herd names have been registered since January 2006!
Another wise decision was the move to engage the services of Jean-Marc Pellerin of Quebec as National Extension Agent. A former Joint Classification Board classifier Pellerin has taken to his newer role as if he was born to do extension work!
In the four full years since 2006 Pellerin has accumulated a glittering array of statistics which prove two things-his excellent abilities as an extension agent and the absolutely burgeoning amount of interest there is for the Jersey breed in Canada! And those statistics are:
- Over 1530 herd visits in nine provinces.
- Over 130 stops to deliver Pro-Gen Mating Program results on behalf of CIAQ.
- Over 230 new memberships to help Jersey Canada memberships soar to the highest level since the late 1960s!
- Over 280 new herd names registered.
- Over 1000 new registrations aiding Jersey Canada to record highest registrations since 1985 in 2009!
- Over 1040 domestic transfers of ownership.
Jean-Marc has also worked at trade shows and is coordinator for the highly successful Canadian Jersey Embryo Program which was launched in late 2008. In addition, he has helped first-time buyers and new buyers select profitable foundation animals at auction sales. As he has noted: “Interest is constant. There is always someone new needing information on the breed or animals.”
There is no question, based on current Jersey activity levels, that amazing 2010 totals for the National Jersey Extension Program will be added by December 31!
