2009 Jersey Youth Scholarship awarded to Sarah Wilkins
The 2009 Jersey Canada Youth Scholarship recipient is Sarah Wilkins of Jarvis, Ontario. Sarah is a Veterinary Technician student at Seneca College in King City, Ontario. For several years, she has been involved with the Jersey breed through helping and showing for Pleasant Nook Jerseys in Fisherville, Ontario.
In addition to showing Pleasant Nook animals in 4-H, Sarah has assisted with many facets of herd management. She credits her experiences with the Fletchers and their Jerseys as one of the major contributing factors in choosing veterinary medicine as a career path. Sarah has been selected for the RAWF Classic Youth Show on three occasions, and continues to help the Fletchers with show preparations whenever possible.
Sarah has also been very active in her community, including serving with Haldimand Against Landfill Transfers, the Selkirk Lions Club, her local 4-H club and the Haldimand Agricultural Society, serving as Queen of the Furrow for Haldimand in 2005 and 2006. In this role, she served as an agricultural ambassador in her local area, with particular focus on agricultural education to children. She has also been a 4-H member since the age of 10, culminating in being named a 4-H Ambassador for Ontario. This role featured promotion of the 4-H program to youth and adults across Ontario.
Congratulations to Sarah on receiving this award and best wishes toward her continued education!
